Details

Comes in kit form and requires construction and painting.

Only the attachment is included, the reach stacker is available separately, Ref. M1.

Special attachments for Forklift-Trucks, Reach-Stackers & Gantry Cranes are not uncommon. Since the 1970ís when ISO containerisation became accepted throughout the world, the need to adapt the modern container handling equipment to carry the occasional non-containerised loads developed. One common example is the steel coil boom lifting attachment, the first dating back to the 1960ís. These attachments are used to handle coiled steel sheet, aluminium, tin-plate, steel cable & wire on and off railway wagons and road trailers, having a long boom that enters the eye (centre-hole) of the coiled load. An un-laden side-shift and rotating boom facility is sometimes, incorporated enabling pick-up from the left and/or right side where coils are held in cradles.

Our Steel Coil boom Attachment kit has been to provide a visual-display of the many variations that the 45t Telescopic Boom Reach-Stacker can handle.

This attachment is not a direct copy of any specific manufacturer, just soundly engineered to suit 1:148 to 1:160 N scales. The attachment once assembled is directly interchangeable with the existing top-lift spreader attachment, by simply removing the pivot pin, dropping it off and replacing it with the new assembled attachment in the same way. Its design incorporates the un-laden side-shift and rotating boom facility enabling it to be shown lifting cradled coils off the Farish BAA steel carrier wagons and our own welled semi-trailer being released in autumn 2014. The model truckís own weight adequately holds the laden attachment aloft (see photos).

The original container spreader attachment removed from the Reach-Stacker boom should not be considered wasted as this could be placed on top on a disused 20ft container. In reality you often see them perched on a container and rusting away when not used regularly. A special carrier sometimes exist on which an boom attachment may be placed when it is removed from the truck.
