Some prototype background:
The 2-6-0 design was initiated on the Great Western by Churchward and some 322 locos of the 43xx class were built from 1911 onwards of which 221 entered British Railways ownership. The first 20 had Churchwards original pattern short cab and cannot be modelled from this kit. The long cab version ran through 43xx, 53xx,63xx and 73xx number sequences but there was considerable variation between locos in service. Some details were added to the design as production progressed and some engines had things taken away during their working life. The differences are found in the following main areas:
inside or outside steam pipes (outside pipes included in the kit if required)
2 patterns of boiler/ frame stay plates (both types included in kit)
different splasher arrangement (mentioned in instruction)
different chimneys (tall and short versions include in kit)
different types of buffer (parallel and tapered versions included in kit)
different types of buffer beam (standard and heavy duty type included in kit)
