Prototype background:
Introduced from 1936 to replace worn out Moguls. Eighty engines were built all of which passed into BR service. When built the Granges were fitted with 3,500 gallon tenders (this type is included in the kit) although some were known to have hauled the larger 4,000 gallon type (available separately as kit A32). When built the Grange had tapered buffers although later these were changed for the parallel type (both are included in the kit). These mixed traffic locos were used all over the system, often pressed into passenger duties in peak periods. Class was withdrawn between 1960-1965.
