After the war Austin started to rationalize their range replacing the Eight, Ten and Twelve with a single successor the A40. It was more overtly American in styling based on the 1939-40 General Motors themes. Colour began to be introduced with the cars available in maroon, grey and light green. The styling remained in place until around 1952 when it received a makeover and the Devon have way to the modern looking Somerset.
