This was Scammells first ‘rigid’ vehicle and was designed for 6 ton payloads. It was called rigid because the previous design (the 1927 six wheel Pioneer unit) had flexible suspension whereby there could be as much as two feet vertical movement of each wheel while the chassis remained level.
